H2O Kite & Wing Academy runs kitesurfing lessons in Long Bay, Turks and Caicos, where the east-southeast trade winds make this one of the more reliable kite destinations in the Caribbean. Our academy sits right on Long Bay Beach, on the southeast coast of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands, as part of H2O life.style.resort. About our spot at Long Bay
Long Bay Beach is wide open to the trade winds, and the wind comes in off the water across a long, uncluttered shoreline. The water stays around waist-deep a long way out and gets shallower still at low tide. Underfoot it’s clean sand. You can stand up almost anywhere, a big help when you’re learning to relaunch a kite or stand up on a board.
This is a flat-water kite spot. There’s no shorebreak and no swell to fight, so first-timers can focus on the kite while freestyle riders get a smooth surface to pop off. On the windiest days it gets busy, with 20 or more kites up, so our instructors pick a patch of water with room for each lesson.
Our kitesurfing season in Long Bay
Wind chasers come to Turks and Caicos for the trade winds. At Long Bay they usually blow from the east-southeast at around 15-20 knots, and you need roughly 12 knots to ride. November through May brings the most consistent wind. Summer still has plenty of good sessions, but you’ll get calm spells in between.
The water is warm all year. Most days you’ll ride in boardshorts or a rashie, maybe a thin shorty for long winter sessions. In summer, patches of sargassum seaweed sometimes wash in. It usually clears up once the season turns.
Kitesurfing lessons we provide
Our instructors coach through radio helmets. You hear them while you’re riding, so they can fix your kite position or stance at the moment it matters. Combine that with shallow water you can stand in, and most students move along faster than they expect.
Private kitesurfing lessons start from US$180 per hour. You get one instructor, and the lesson follows your level and goals, whether you’re flying a kite for the first time, trying to hold your ground upwind or working on more advanced moves. Group lessons start from US$500 and suit friends or families who want to learn together. The group works through kite control, safety and board skills side by side.
If you want to commit, our multi-day private packages start from US$950. Plenty of our students arrive as complete beginners and leave riding on their own.
We run wingfoil lessons in the same formats: private, group or as a package. The steady wind and shallow water at Long Bay give you a forgiving place to get comfortable with the wing before you start lifting onto the foil. We also teach eFoil from US$250 per hour, with radio helmets for beginners.
Once you’re riding, come along on one of our guided kite and wing downwinders. They last from two to eight hours and follow the coast to quiet beaches and sandbars around the islands. Our guides plan each trip around the day’s wind and the group’s ability.
The crew
Our instructors hold international certifications and have years of teaching behind them on Long Bay Beach. Safety comes first, then steady progress.
Our equipment
We teach and rent on Duotone and Cabrinha kites, with twin-tip boards, surfboards, foil boards, wing foil boards, wings, harnesses, helmets and life jackets. Our eFoil fleet includes boards from Takuma, Lift and Fliteboard. You can rent by the hour, day or week, so you can travel light and ride current gear.
Our accommodation
H2O lifestyle resort sits on the beach right behind the academy. Choose from the Beach House, Caicos House, Surf House, Mangrove Estate or the Penthouse. Guests get continental breakfast each morning, two oceanfront pools with hot tubs, a Cabana Bar BBQ area and an on-site surf shop. Our Kite Butlers take care of setup, safety checks and launch assistance, and you can leave your gear on-site between sessions.
No-wind activities
When the wind drops, resort guests can take out the complimentary kayaks, paddleboards, Hobie Cats and snorkel gear. We have free bikes for getting around the island, a 24-hour gym, a pickleball and basketball court, and a rooftop terrace for sunset.
