What you're in for

BleuKite has been teaching kitesurfing lessons in Essaouira for over 20 years, making it one of the first kite schools to set up on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Our school sits right on Boulevard Mohammed V, 100 metres from the beach in Essaouira, Morocco. The North Atlantic wind that rolls into this bay is what brought us here, and it’s still the reason people keep finding us.

At a glance:

  • We are an IKO-certified kite school and Ozone kite distributor based in Essaouira, Morocco, with over 20 years of teaching experience
  • Kitesurfing lessons for all levels: beginner to advanced, group (2–3 students per instructor), private, and kids’ courses (min. 40 kg, max. 2 per instructor)
  • Downwind trips available for intermediate and advanced riders
  • Radio helmets included in all lessons, all equipment (kite, board, harness, wetsuit) provided
  • Equipment: Ozone kites, Prolimit accessories, rental includes all sizes with free swaps on the day
  • IKO certification issued on course completion
  • Wind: North/NW, side-onshore, 15–25 knots, strongest April to October, peak July–August at 22–28 knots
  • Surf lessons also available
  • Accommodation packages: hotel (5 min from beach) or private apartment (100 m from beach), 4-day and 7-day packages available

About our spot in Essaouira

Essaouira sits directly in the path of Morocco’s North Atlantic wind. The beach is wide, sandy, and open to the ocean. Wind arrives from the north and northwest at a side-onshore angle, pushing riders toward the beach rather than out to sea. The bottom is sandy throughout, depth stays shallow close to shore, and there’s space to keep beginners well clear of more experienced riders.

Essaouira is a walled medina port, not a resort town. It has a fishing harbour, a strong local culture, and a beach that happens to be one of the most consistent kite spots in Africa. Wind chasers find this place and tend to come back.

Our kitesurfing season in Essaouira

The main kitesurfing season runs from April to October. Through July and August, North Atlantic winds are strong and consistent, regularly sitting between 22 and 28 knots. Spring and early autumn bring reliable conditions in the 15–20 knot range with quieter beaches. For many riders, that shoulder period is the better window for learning.

We time lessons around conditions. On peak summer afternoons when the wind goes above 25 knots, we shift sessions earlier in the day when things are smoother. Water stays cool year-round, so wetsuits are part of the kit regardless of season.

Kitesurfing lessons we provide

We teach at all levels. Beginners start on the beach with kite control and safety, then move into the water for body dragging, water starts, and first rides. Most students reach controlled independent riding within 6–10 hours. We adapt the pace to where each person actually is, not a fixed timeline.

Group lessons run with 2–3 students per instructor. Private lessons give you one instructor to yourself. That’s the faster route, and the format we recommend if you want to progress quickly. Kids’ courses follow a specific progression suited to younger riders and are capped at two children per instructor.

For riders who already have solid skills, we run downwind trips along the coast. These go further than a standard lesson, guided by instructors who know every stretch of this shoreline in every season.

All lessons include radio helmets so your instructor can give you real-time feedback while you’re flying the kite. Equipment is included: kite, board, harness, and wetsuit. An IKO certificate comes with the course on completion.

We also run wingfoil lessons, using the same structured progression as our kitesurfing programme.

Surf lessons are available on lighter wind days with certified instructors.

Our equipment

We are an official Ozone kite distributor. All lessons and rentals use Ozone kites and Prolimit accessories. Every size of kite and board is available, and we swap gear during the day as conditions change at no extra cost. On-site facilities include changing rooms and hot showers.

Our accommodation

Our Stay and Ride packages pair lessons with accommodation near the beach. The hotel option puts you five minutes from the water. The private apartment option is 100 metres away. The 7-day package covers six nights, daily breakfast, 10 hours of kitesurfing, complete equipment, and airport transfers. A 4-day version with three nights is also available. For anything that doesn’t fit either format, we put together custom packages to match what you need.

Amazing kite surf school! Had an absolute blast there! The guys are really knowledged and I had a lot of fun. Booked a package with hotel included and not only the hotel was absolutely great, but also the course every morning! The guys told me every evening in advance when I should come to the school, for best wind conditions. Even when the conditions weren‘t great they guys always came up with a plan B, so i still learned a lot within a week! Big shout out to Nabil and his crew, they not only took their time to explain and taught me how to kyte, they also explained me a lot about Essaouira and showed me the best restaurants and recommended me places I have to see around the area. My course there is already quite some time ago but I‘m planning to go back this spring if possible 😊 Hope to see you soon again!

Mustafa was an amazing surf instructor. He took the time and the care to make sure I understood exactly every step and that I knew and had what it took to stand up and surf. He would not quit until I was successful. Super grateful for the experience. Everyone was so friendly and helpful at Bleukite can’t wait to check them out again.!

We had a semi private lesson with Yaya. It was amazing and the instructor was very informative and helpful. We had wireless communication to speak with him and we had fun. The owner of the shop was very cool and he communicated the info honestly. Certainly we are coming back to continue our kyte surfing lessons

We booked a 2h long private surf lesson for 2 people and it exceeded our expectations. Bleukite is perfectly located and easy to find across the street of a beautiful beach. Once arrived we very quickly got our board and swimsuits and went to the beach where we had a quick instruction lesson and warm up session and then went right into the water. So we were able to effectively surf for 2 hours. Our instructor was amazing and once we were able to catch a few waves he observed and was able to give us instant input on how to improve. I can definitely recommend BleuKite, especially for beginners like us I also recommend a private lesson if you are solo or a couple.
