Flisvos Kite Centre Naxos has been teaching kitesurfing lessons at Mikri Vigla in Naxos Island ever since this corner of the Aegean became one of Greece’s best kitesurfing destinations. Our centre sits right on the sandy beach at Orkos Bay, on the south-west coast of Naxos. The Meltemi blows here from morning to sunset, and the Venturi effect from the channel between Naxos and Paros makes the wind stronger and more consistent than almost anywhere else in the Mediterranean.

About our spot at Mikri Vigla
Mikri Vigla is a wide sandy bay, and the kite spot sits in a leeward-protected section of it. The wind arrives side-onshore from the north, so anyone who loses control drifts onto the beach rather than out to sea. It’s one of the reasons we can teach with complete beginners here without hesitation. The water is shallow close to shore, the bottom is sandy, and the landing zone is clean. Further out, there’s plenty of room for more experienced kitesurfers to open up.
The bay sits about 10 kilometres south of Naxos Town, which keeps it quieter than the island’s more touristy areas. In peak season, the beach fills with riders from across Europe, but the wind window is wide enough that it rarely feels crowded on the water.
Our kitesurfing season in Naxos
The Meltemi runs from May to October, one of the longer kite seasons in Greece. Wind comes from the north and north-west, side-onshore to our bay, with over 80% of days genuinely windy. The Venturi effect through the Naxos-Paros channel pushes wind strength up, regularly reaching 20 to 30 knots through July and August. May and September are usually consistent too. Water temperature in summer sits around 25°C. A rashie covers most of the season, with a light wetsuit useful in the shoulder months.
Kitesurfing lessons we provide
Our kitesurfing lessons follow the IKO methodology across levels 1 to 3. The standard beginner course covers Level 1 and Level 2 in 10 hours, always capped at 2 students per instructor. A 2-hour “Discover Kiteboarding” taster is available for anyone wanting a first feel before committing.
Level 1 is on land: kite control, the wind window, setting up and launching safely with an assistant. Level 2 goes into the water: body dragging, water relaunch, and first board rides. Level 3 gets you riding upwind and turning consistently, independent enough to take your skills to any spot in the world.
All lessons are radio-assisted, so instructors can guide you in real time from the shore or water. Completed courses earn an official IKO card recognised worldwide. We also offer private foil lessons for riders progressing into hydrofoiling.
Our crew
Luciana and Michele founded and run Flisvos Kite Centre. All instructors hold IKO certification and teach in English, Italian, French, German and Greek. That language range matters: we draw a genuinely international crowd, and learning in your own language makes a real difference when absorbing new techniques under pressure.
Our equipment
We use RRD (Roberto Ricci Designs) across the board: kites, boards, accessories. The fleet is renewed each season and covers a full-size range for different wind conditions and rider weights. Rental gear includes a harness, a wetsuit, a life jacket and a helmet. Rentals require IKO Level 3 certification; if you’re unsure of your level, we do a short free evaluation.
Our accommodation
Hotel Orkos Beach is about 50 metres from the kite beach, set in a garden with a pool and views across the bay. Rooms range from doubles to family suites, most with sea-view terraces. The rate includes a breakfast buffet with local and organic products, 8-10AM daily. Booking a room alongside a kite course gets you a combined deal and takes most of the planning off your hands. The restaurant and bar are on site, open from 9Am into the evening, serving Mediterranean food with a strong Italian influence.
