Drivethru started back in 2013 when three mates, Alex, Waschdl, and Raphi, decided to turn their passion for surfing into something more permanent. After spending years working at surf camps together in Morocco and France, they moved to Sri Lanka and opened their first camp. What started as a surf-focused operation has naturally evolved to include kitesurfing, and now they run camps in both Sri Lanka and Denmark’s west coast.
The whole idea behind Drivethru is simple: form places where people can surf, kitesurf, relax in beautiful settings, and spend time with good people. We deliberately keep things low-key, accepting a maximum of 28 guests at a time. We like to run a place where our team gives extra time to the guests, whether that’s in the water through kitesurfing lessons or just hanging around after dinner. Our focus is on creating a homely atmosphere rather than running a factory-style operation, and that shows in everything from the personalised coaching to the small group sizes.
Our location
We’re based in Hvide Sande on Denmark’s west coast, set on a headland between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord. The property sits on about 35,000 square metres of garden space with plenty of room to spread out, park your camper van, or just find a quiet spot to relax. The nearest surf spot is about a 900-metre walk through the dunes, and our private fjord access is only 300 metres away.
Our location works particularly well for kitesurfing lessons because the fjord offers flat, shallow water. Ideal learning conditions for beginners getting to grips with the basics. The private access means you’re not competing for space. Our spot works in various wind directions. When you’re ready to progress or fancy something different, the North Sea is just over the dunes with bigger waves. Having both options within walking distance is handy. If conditions aren’t playing ball on one side, there’s usually something worth checking out on the other.
Our team and instructors
Lea runs the Denmark camp, taking care of everything on site. She’s a certified trainer, yoga teacher, and massage therapist. Lea makes sure everyone feels welcome and settled, and she also leads movement and relaxation sessions during the week.
Oliver leads the surf lessons at the Denmark camp. He’s an ISA Level 1 Coach and Surf Beach Lifeguard, and he enjoys sharing his surfing knowledge. Qualified instructors teach the kitesurfing lessons, all with ISA certifications and lifeguard qualifications. Safety is a priority here. All instructors use well-maintained equipment and give coaching designed for your skill level.
The co-founders still visit the camps often, although Alex now mainly manages business from Germany. Waschdl looks after training and development at both locations and has been coaching surfing since 2008. Both have ISA Level 2 Coach certifications and lifeguard qualifications.

Drivethru’s Denmark camp stands out for its setup. It provides comfort, chilled vibes, and adventure. We have a barrel sauna and hot tub by the fjord, perfect after a long day on the water or when you want to unwind. The accommodation is not like a typical hostel. There are different room types, all with quality furnishings, and some have views of the fjord.
