What you're in for

Mancora Kite Club started teaching kitesurfing lessons on Máncora Beach over a decade ago, and we’ve held our IKO certification the whole way through. Our school sits right on the sand in Máncora, on the Pacific coast of Peru’s Piura region, about halfway between the Ecuadorian border and the city of Piura. Thermal winds off this desert coastline keep the water moving almost every day of the year.

At a glance:

  • We are an IKO-certified kite school on Máncora Beach in northern Peru
  • We teach kitesurfing lessons and wingfoil lessons for all levels, in private or semi-private format, semi-private meaning one instructor shared between two students
  • We provide walkie-talkie support, impact vests and helmets, and quality equipment included in every class
  • Equipment: Ozone and Duotone kites, Slingshot and Ride Engine gear, Duotone wings and carbon hydrofoils for wingfoil
  • Wind: thermal wind almost year-round, 15 to 25 knots, warm water and a shallow, sandy launch
  • We have been running the school for over 10 years and have taught more than 500 students
  • We offer beachfront accommodation at Bali Lodge, 100 metres from the water, with breakfast and kite storage included
  • On-site facilities: saltwater pool, rooftop bar, beach gym and high-speed wifi

About our spot at Máncora Beach

Máncora sits on Peru’s northern coast in the Piura region, a few hours’ drive from three regional airports at Talara, Tumbes and Piura. The launch is a shallow, sandy stretch of beach with warm water year-round, so beginners spend their first sessions in conditions that forgive mistakes. The wind blows side-shore. That keeps riders moving parallel to the beach instead of getting pushed out to sea, and it’s why we move between spots along the coast depending on the day’s conditions rather than sticking to one fixed beach.

Our kitesurfing season in Máncora

The wind here is thermal, driven by the gap in temperature between the desert coastline and the ocean, and it holds through most of the year instead of sitting inside a narrow season. Wind speeds run 15 to 25 knots on a typical day, enough for a full afternoon on the water without overpowering someone on their first class. That’s paired with warm water all year, and it’s why we run kitesurfing lessons and wingfoil lessons across most of the calendar instead of a short peak window.

Wingfiol & kitesurfing lessons we teach

Courses run from a single Discovery day (2 hours) up to a 5-day Full Progression program, in both private and semi-private format. Every course includes equipment and walkie-talkie support from the water. The Intensive and Full Progression levels add video recording, technique analysis, and the option of drone footage.

Wingfoil lessons follow the same progression, from a 1-day Discovery session through to a 5-day Full Progression course with video coaching and a certificate of completion. If you’ve already got your kitesurfing or wingfoil basics down, we also run one-on-one wave riding coaching: a local instructor drives you to whichever spot is firing that day and reviews the session with you on video afterwards.

The crew

Enrique, our founder and head instructor, has spent more than 15 years living and riding this coastline. He knows the wind, swell and current well enough to read a session before it starts. The rest of the team holds IKO certification and splits time between kitesurf, wingfoil and wave riding coaching. Everyone works the same way: radio support, close guidance in the water, and gear checked before every session.

Our equipment

Kitesurfing lessons use Ozone and Duotone kites in sizes from 5 to 14 metres, paired with twin-tip boards, modern bar and safety-release systems, and harnesses with impact vests and helmets. Wingfoil students ride Duotone Unit and Slick wings with foil boards between 80 and 120 litres and carbon hydrofoils, backed by fast-inflation pumps and coil safety leashes. Slingshot and Ride Engine round out the gear across both disciplines.

Our accommodation

We run our own beachfront stay, Bali Lodge, about 100 metres from the shoreline and a five-minute walk from Máncora’s restaurants and shops. Rooms range from a solo private room to a double for couples or shared stays. Every rate includes daily breakfast, locked storage for boards and kites, and access to the saltwater pool, beachfront deck and rooftop bar for sunset socials.

No-wind activities

On the days the wind doesn’t show, we run surf and SUP sessions instead, using the same clean, warm-water breaks and calm morning bays that make this stretch of coast good for beginners. Lessons go from a first Discovery session through to a full progression course with wave reading and coastline SUP tours, so a flat day still turns into time on the water.

I came here as a complete beginner with no kiting experience. After about a week of lessons with the instructor, Martín, I was able to control the kite well and ride the waves. Because I was a solo traveler, Martín also invited me to local parties and helped me connect with the community here, which I really appreciated. The school owner, Enrique, is a Máncora local with a lot of local knowledge and connections. He’s very responsive, replies quickly, and always provides great suggestions around town. He also helped arrange classes and transportations well. Besides kitesurfing, I also took yoga and paddleboarding classes with Kite Club. The yoga instructor, Patty, is so amazing—definitely a world-class instructor. She teaches yoga almost everyday—at different hotels, so you’ll need to take “moto taxi” to the class locations (or consider stay at one of the hotels she gives classes). But still, it’s very worthwhile. I didn’t expect to meet someone so professional before I came to Mancora. The paddleboarding class was taught by Enrique’s young daughter. During the session, an unpleasant accident happened and disrupted my original itinerary, but Enrique and I later resolved the problem together. So overall, I’d say my experience with Kite Club was positive. If you plan to visit Mancora, I’d recommend spending a few days taking classes at this school👍

Amazing 8 days at The Kite Club in Mancora, with Enrique and his International community of passionnated! The Life is good there :) We had constant wind & took lesson everyday. Great pedagogic & trustable instructors. Good quality equipment for kite surf but as well wingfoil & a very cool spot to learn how to kite or just kite in supervision! We were mainly kiting in front of the club on the main beach, but there is a nice laguna as well for beginner it’s helpful. Enrique is very dedicated to his guests & kite surf students. He will brings you if you wish at others spot around on a Kitetrip. I recommend at 100% this spot!
