Paje Kitesurf School sits right on Paje Beach on Zanzibar’s east coast. The school is located in one of the best spots you could ask for. The lagoon in Paje is known for its flat water and consistent side-onshore winds—ideal conditions whether you’re wobbling through your first water starts or working on freestyle tricks. The shallow water makes it forgiving for beginners, and when the tide’s up, the reef creates a very decent wave spot for anyone keen to try wave riding.
Paje Kitesurf runs with a team of IKO-certified instructors who’ve got over 15 years of experience between them. They’re all about proper safety standards and taking you through the IKO lesson plan step by step. Kitesurfing courses are available in English, French, Polish, Dutch, and Swahili, so there’s a good chance someone speaks your language.
The school offers the usual setup—private lessons if you want one-on-one attention, semi-private for pairs, and group lessons for three or four people. There’s also advanced coaching if you’re already riding and want to level up. Beyond kitesurfing lessons, Paje Kitesurf offers equipment rentals through the partnership with Harlem Kites Netherlands, plus kite trips to much quieter Zanzibar kite spots if you fancy escaping the crowds. They’ve even added paragliding tandem flights and can sort all sorts of safari packages, if you’re combining Zanzibar with mainland Tanzania. The kite school opens daily from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, and the whole vibe is pretty laid-back, with instructors who actually care about you progressing safely rather than just ticking boxes.
The kitesurfing season in Zanzibar runs roughly from December to March (Kaskazi winds, 14-20 knots) and from June to October (Kusi winds, up to 25 knots), so there’s a decent window to work with whenever you’re planning your holiday.
