What you're in for

Source Kiteboarding has been teaching kitesurfing lessons in Mui Ne since this stretch of Vietnam’s southern coastline became one of Asia’s go-to kite destinations. Our centre sits right on Ganh Beach, known locally as Malibu Beach in Ham Tien, on the south-eastern coast of Vietnam’s Binh Thuan province. The northeast monsoon drives reliable wind here for around seven months of the year, which is why riders keep coming back winter after winter.

At a glance:

  • We are a kitesurfing and watersports school based at Ganh Beach (Malibu Beach), Ham Tien, Mui Ne, Vietnam
  • Kitesurfing lessons for beginners through to advanced; private and semi-private formats; wingfoil lessons also available
  • Private 1-on-1 lessons, semi-private (2-person) lessons, and multi-hour packages
  • Equipment: North kites and North KB Nova wings
  • Wind: NE monsoon (side/cross-onshore), October to May, 20-30+ knots; lighter SW winds June to October
  • Water temps: 25°C+; Air temps: 28-32°C+
  • Languages: English, French, Russian, Vietnamese
  • Accommodation: partner resorts nearby, bookable direct through us (Pandanus Resort, Blue Ocean Resort, and others)
  • Onsite: storage lockers, beach assistance, food and drinks, showers, toilets, free WiFi, shady chill-out areas

About our spot at Malibu Beach, Mui Ne

Malibu Beach is a wide, sandy stretch with a side/cross-onshore northeast wind that suits all rider levels, though the conditions shift through the day. Mornings are lighter and cleaner – small waves with good spacing between sets, calm enough for beginners to find their feet without feeling overwhelmed. By afternoon the wind builds and the waves get more punch, which suits intermediate riders looking to push their riding. Evenings are for the experienced: stronger gusts, bigger surf, the kind of session you plan your day around.
The beach has a venturi effect from the surrounding hills, which funnels and accelerates the afternoon wind each day during the dry season. That daily ramp-up is useful to know if you’re learning – mornings are your friend, afternoons give you something to grow into.
Beyond the beach, downwinder options run from as far upwind as Turtle Island all the way down to Phan Thiet, covering flat water and wave conditions depending on what you’re after.

Our kitesurfing season in Mui Ne

The main season runs from October to May, with northeast winds averaging 20-25 knots and picking up to 25+ knots in the afternoons. Water temperature stays above 25°C and air temperatures sit between 28 and 32°C throughout. From June to October there’s a lighter southwest wind – not prime kiting season, but some riders stay on for it.
Mui Ne sits in a rain shadow that keeps it drier than much of Vietnam during the wetter months, which is part of why the northeast season here is so consistent.

Kitesurfing lessons we provide

We run private and semi-private kitesurfing lessons tailored to where you’re starting from. A 2-hour private lesson covers beginners and anyone needing a refresher. The 6-hour private package takes you from safety basics and kite control through to waterstart. The 12-hour private package is structured to get you riding upwind independently. Semi-private lessons (2 people, 1 instructor) are available for the 2-hour format. Every lesson is 1-on-1 where possible – you get more time in the water and faster feedback.
We also offer wingfoil lessons for anyone wanting to branch out. The introduction lesson (2 hours) gets you on a board with the wing, no foil. The 3-day course (6 hours) takes you through to sailing board and foil together. For those who want the most solid foundation, the 4-day course (12 hours) covers the full basics. Semi-private wingfoil lessons are available too. We use North KB Nova wings for all wingfoil sessions.

Our crew

Julien Brout founded Source and runs it alongside co-owner and instructor Geoffroy Charton. Stanislav Taller manages the school and also instructs. Between the team, we cover English, French, Russian, and Vietnamese.

Our accommodation

We have arrangements with a few resorts close to the beach. Pandanus Resort is a short walk from our watersports centre. Blue Ocean Resort sits on the beachfront with lush garden surrounds. We can also point you towards Cargo Remote (an eco-friendly option), Coconut Garden, La Marina, and Mi Nhon. Book direct through us for the best rates.

No-wind activities

Surf lessons run at Ganh Beach when conditions allow, and we do SUP. The onsite café is there for the days when the wind drops or you just need a coffee before an afternoon session.

These are the views you get (room 8) Kinds staffs. Best views. Furnitures and toilet are quite old but have the antique-y vibe. The price is very affordabld yet overall quality of the service I received was filled with satisfaction.

Source is fantastic! The people there are very friendly, and the new Orbit kites (including a pro version available for rent) are absolutely perfect. The beach in front is spacious and not too crowded. The conditions are ideal for big jumps, as great waves build up in front—especially if you prefer taking off to the left. Mi & Denis

Great rental place, great kite spot, and great people. I was able to get top gear in pristine conditions (actually, I was lucky to have brand new gear) for a great price. There is no need to carry my own gear and deal with the stress at the airport. Just rent stress free and try new equipment. Quentin and Julien were super nice and accommodating. I highly recommend and will come back!
