What you're in for

The Boavista island is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and with the best conditions for water sports of the 13 islands of Cape Verde located about 500-600 km in front the North African coast of Dakar, about 1000 kilometers south of the Canary Islands.

Our Boa Vista location operates in quite different conditions to Portugal, but that’s what makes it special. The wind here is predominantly offshore, so we’ve adapted how we teach – most beginner kite lessons run as semi-private or private sessions with our boat following you throughout. It means more one-on-one attention and immediate support if you need it. When we do run group sessions, we head to Ponta António where the onshore wind creates better conditions for that format.

We maintain the same certifications here as our Algarve centre – IKO, VDWS, and ASI accredited – and our instructors follow the same training standards. The communication headset system works brilliantly in these conditions, especially when we’re coaching from the boat. What’s quite effective is having instructors demonstrate manoeuvres on the water alongside you rather than just directing from a distance.

The beauty of having both locations is the seasons complement each other perfectly. Our Boa Vista operation runs best from early November through to late April, so between the two centres, we’ve got ideal conditions pretty much year-round. The consistent offshore breeze here suits wingfoil and windsurf particularly well, and that boat support means we can take you further and show you techniques up close.

We offer the full range of services – lessons, rentals, storage, guided tours, and our camp packages which include airport transfers and half-board with breakfast and dinner. We serve fresh local fish caught daily, and we’re set up for vegetarian and vegan meals too. Our gear is the same Cabrinha setup we use in Portugal, refreshed regularly to keep everything in top condition.

Safety’s paramount for us – rescue boats, full insurance, qualified instructors – all adapted to work with Cape Verde’s conditions and that wonderful morabeza hospitality the islands are known for.

What makes this island a paradise is the lifestyle, the beaches, the color of the water, nature and especially the friendliness of the people. It is an ideal place for those looking for a ‘stress free’ holiday, to relax, to eat good food especially if you like fresh fish you are in paradise the fish is caught every day cooler than this is impossible.

About the spot

The Alísios winds blow in from the Sahara Desert between November and late April, bringing consistent conditions that make Boa Vista a proper paradise for windsurfers, kitesurfers, and wingfoilers. We’ve set up our centre right next to the Morabeza restaurant, one of the most welcoming spots on the island with a lovely atmosphere.

The wind here is side-onshore, typically running between 15 and 30 knots. For safety, we’ve divided the spot into two areas – one for kitesurfing and one for windsurfing – both offering great flat water conditions with a small wave. When the swell picks up, our team’s always on hand to help you out if you need it.

For windsurfing and wingfoiling beginners, we head to the Sal Rei islet, about 400 metres from our centre. It’s got flat water, onshore wind, and a sandy bottom, which makes it ideal for learning without the pressure of offshore conditions.

If you fancy riding waves, we’ve got some brilliant options right on our doorstep. Just next to the kite school there’s ‘Leoa’, a really approachable wave that breaks over a fairly deep sandbank. It’s not too heavy, so it’s safe even for beginners – you can take a tumble without too much drama. To the left of the centre, there’s the Hotel Rui wave, a perfect right-hander that works for all levels. It fires even on smaller swell days, and as long as you avoid the shore break, you can surf it in complete safety.

About 50 to 100 metres to the right, there’s a lovely little wave – knee to shoulder high – that’s perfect for stand-up paddle or surfing. Honestly, your level doesn’t matter much here; even beginners find themselves riding waves after a short time. Early morning at sunrise or evening at sunset, it’s absolutely dreamy and often the highlight of the day.
