What you're in for

Naxos Kitelife has been teaching wingfoil & kitesurfing lessons at Mikri Vigla on Naxos Island, Greece. Our centre sits right on the main strip at Mikri Vigla beach, on the south-west coast of Naxos Island in Greece. A Venturi effect through the bay pushes wind here 5–10 knots stronger than most other beaches on the island, and that gap is a big part of why we set up shop here.

At a glance:

  • We are an IKO and KC-certified kitesurfing centre at Mikri Vigla, Naxos
  • Kitesurfing lessons and wingfoil lessons for all levels, beginner through advanced; rescue boat and radio helmets used in all supervised sessions
  • Equipment: Eleveight kites and boards for lessons and rentals, Peter Lynn Swell for advanced rentals, Sabfoil and Moses carbon foil boards for hydrofoiling, Mystic and ION wetsuits, BBtalkin radios
  • Wind: Meltemi from June to September, side-onshore, 200+ windy days per year; North and Northwest are the best directions
  • IKO and KC certifications are issued on course completion; instructors speak several languages
  • No on-site accommodation: we recommend a selection of studios and hotels at and near the spot, from budget rooms right on the beach to villas further out
  • On-site facilities: hot showers, WC, equipment rinse barrels, free coffee, Wi-Fi, gear storage lockers; Kitevan on the beach for on-spot assistance
  • Open daily April to November; winter sessions by appointment

About our spot at Mikri Vigla

Mikri Vigla is a long sandy beach with clean, shallow water and a bay shape that works in your favour. The dominant North and Northwest winds blow side-onshore here. You get pushed back to the beach rather than out to sea. For kitesurfing supervision, this setup is hard to beat. Beginners feel it immediately: a session at Mikri Vigla is calmer than the forecast often suggests, because the bay absorbs a lot of what the open Aegean throws at it. Advanced riders still get plenty of space and wind to work with. The kite spot sits on the western coast of Naxos, between the rocky cape to the south and Orkos and Plaka beaches to the north. Sandy bottom, no coral. The water stays flat in the bay, with a bit of chop further out. During the season, there’s always someone on the water, from first-timers to experienced freestylers.

Our kitesurfing season in Naxos

The Meltemi is what drives the season. From June to September it blows almost every day, sometimes all day, from the North and Northwest. The Venturi funnel through the cape means we regularly see 5–10 knots more than neighbouring beaches or the town of Naxos. The island clocks over 200 windy days a year in total, but the Meltemi months are the core: consistent, reliable, and good for all levels. Air and water temperatures through July and August sit comfortably warm. We open from April and run through November. Outside those months, the wind is less predictable, but we take bookings on request.

Wingfoil & kitesurfing lessons we provide

We teach wingfoil and kitesurfing lessons from complete beginners to advanced level, including children, surfboard riding, and hydrofoil progression. Sessions are flexible by design. You work at your own pace, on a schedule shaped around conditions. We use live weather data from our on-site station to plan the day. Radio helmets (BBtalkin and walkie-talkie systems) keep instructors coaching you in real time from the beach or the kitevan. We start with shorter lines in early sessions, building to full length as confidence grows. All our kitesurfing supervision follows IKO methodology. At the end of your course, you receive a KC certificate and card showing your confirmed level, recognised internationally and valid at any KC-affiliated centre worldwide. We also run wingfoil lessons for all levels using Sabfoil and Eleveight equipment. Wingfoiling has grown fast over the last few years, and we’ve built it properly into what we do. Whether you’re coming to Naxos for wingfoil or kitesurfing lessons, or want to try both, we can make that work.

The crew

Petros started kitesurfing in 2009, taught himself when there was no instruction available on the island, and launched Naxos Kitelife in 2015 after earning the highest available IKO certification. Every instructor on the team holds KC and IKO certification, or certification from an equivalent kiteboarding organisation. The team speaks several languages and has been working with students from across Europe and beyond since the school opened.

Our equipment

For kitesurfing lessons we use Eleveight kites and boards: stable, forgiving, and reliable relaunching from water. For intermediate and advanced rentals, we carry the Eleveight RS and WS, plus the Peter Lynn Swell. Hydrofoil riders go on Moses full-carbon foil boards, with Sabfoil equipment for wingfoiling. All riders wear helmets and impact vests. Mystic and ION wetsuits and shorties are available depending on the time of year. The kitevan parks on the beach during sessions. A rescue boat is on standby throughout.

Where to stay near the spot

We don’t run accommodation, but Mikri Vigla has a solid range of options within walking distance of the centre: budget studios and small hotels right on the beach, villas a few kilometres out, and options in Naxos Town about 17 km away. We keep an updated list of places we know and trust. Ask us when you book and we’ll point you toward something that fits your group and budget.

The Best experience with Naxos kitesurfing school! I had the best instructor I could have wished for. Freya is a huge professional with a lot of experience behind her. Especially thanks to her, my progress was so fast and effective. She immediately saw my mistakes and knew how to guide me correctly. She always knew how to advise me on what to improve and what not to do. Freya is very friendly and helpful. The entire staff from the owners to the instructors are incredibly nice and helpful, always welcome you with a smile and good coffee or water. They offer complete rental of new equipment, you don't have to bring anything with you. 100% recommend and can't wait for our next lessons! 🤙🏼🏄🏼‍♀️🪁

Great company and amazing instructors. A complete beginner, the two instructors (clearly pros) I had, were both professional and patient, and over the time I had to learn, I was more than happy with my progession. The communication, support and equipment from the base were all spot on, along with a friendly and chilled atmosphere. I'll be back!

I felt really lucky to have Ahmed as a coach. He has a genuine way of teaching that makes you feel supported. Even when I made silly beginner mistakes, he kept it light and encouraging, and he made learning easy, even when conditions were tough. I’ll miss these lessons, they were one of the highlights of my time here!

It’s great school, the equipment is very new as it’s exchanged regularly for maximum safety. The instructiors are friendly and patient, the spot is nice to chill and you get very good coffee (freddo cappuccino, espresso, lungo,… whatever you need to boost your energy). Water and coffee is for free, which I find amazing. Coming back to the school and the people: everyone is very kind, the service is great. I can only recommend the school, it’s a great spot for beginners and pro’s. Petros and his wife Lisa are super kind and know exactly what they are doing! The people at the reception (Sarah & Panos) are great as well. I was also happy with my instructor, Kostas. On top of that, the prices are fair, for both, becoming a kite surfer and also if you only want rental. Short: Great spot with great people, great coffee, great mood, great prices, great equipment! Can only recommend it for both, beginners & pro’s!

tl;dr: Awesome first kitesurfing experience! Super friendly staff, great instructors, and excellent facilities. Highly recommend! I spent a week taking daily kitesurfing lessons at Naxos Kitelife, and it was an amazing experience! Big shout out to MK, my instructor, who gave me tons of helpful tips and encouragement. She got me from zero to an almost fully independent and confident kitesurfer. Couldn't have asked for a better start to my kitesurfing journey. Lisa and Johanna were awesome with scheduling, always responsive and flexible. We communicated very conveniently via WhatsApp, making it super easy to arrange lessons. The vibe at Naxos Kitelife is welcoming, encouraging, and cheerful — perfect for learning a new sport. I really appreciated the genuine interactions with the staff and other students, both at the school and on the beach. And I can't forget the complimentary water or coffee at the start and end of every lesson, which was always appreciated after a few hours under the sun. The school is just a 2-3 minute walk from the beach and has toilets, hot showers, and lockers for storing valuables. This made the whole experience even more comfortable and hassle-free. I'm stoked to continue my kitesurfing adventures, thanks to the awesome foundation I built here. I'd 100% recommend Naxos Kitelife to anyone looking to start their kitesurfing journey like me! But also, to more experienced kitesurfers just looking to rent or take a few lessons!
