What you're in for

Camber Kitesurfing has been teaching landboarding, power kite, kite buggy & running kitesurfing lessons in Camber since 2002, making it one of the longest-running kite schools in the UK. Our school is based at 123 Lydd Road in Camber, near Rye, East Sussex, UK, just two minutes’ walk from the teaching zone. The South East coast doesn’t always get credit as a kitesurfing destination, but Camber Sands is an awesome spot with a wide, flat sand beach, consistent south-westerly winds, and enough room to learn without feeling crowded.

At a glance:

  • We are a BKSA-approved kite school established in 2002 at Camber Sands, East Sussex
  • Kitesurfing lessons for beginners through to advanced, 2-day and 5-day course options
  • Kite buggy and kite mountain boarding lessons available
  • Wingfoil lessons and hire available
  • Equipment: Cabrinha, Crazyfly, Ozone, Airush, F-One, Dakine, Manera, Shinn; Alder wetsuits
  • Wind: South-westerly dominant, best April to October
  • Hot outdoor shower, toilets, and a physical shop on site
  • Bell tent accommodation in summer (hot tub, BBQ, outdoor shower included)
  • Additional activities: kayaking, SUP, e-bike hire, wakeboarding winch, sea kayaking

About our spot at Camber Sands

Camber Sands is a flat, sandy beach on the East Sussex coast. The bay faces south-west, which lines up with the prevailing Atlantic winds that push through this part of the coastline. The beach is wide and the water stays shallow for a good distance out — both things that matter when you’re learning. Our kite zone is 200 metres from the shop door.

We also teach at Greatstone, just along the coast. It gives us a second clean sandy beach to work with when conditions or crowds call for it.

What’s our kitesurfing season in Camber Sands?

The best conditions run from April to October, with south-westerly winds most common through those months. The English Channel keeps water temperatures reasonable in summer, though a wetsuit is always the right call. We run lessons year-round when the wind cooperates.

Landboarding, Kite buggy & Kitesurfing lessons we provide

We’ve been teaching kiteboarding since the early days of the sport, and the approach has developed over that time. Our BKSA-approved beginner lessons follow a clear progression: kite control on land, body dragging in the water, then board work. The 2-day beginner course gives you a proper feel for the sport. For a bigger commitment, the 5-day Zero to Hero course takes you from zero experience to independent riding.

Intermediate and advanced lessons are available too, so there’s a clear path if you want to keep progressing after your first course. Private sessions run alongside group options.

Kite buggy lessons are popular as a land-based introduction to kite flying, and we run kite mountain boarding lessons as well. For wingfoiling, we offer wingfoil lessons and equipment hire. It’s grown quickly at Camber over the past few years and sits well alongside kitesurfing for anyone looking to add another discipline.

We’re set up for stag and hen parties, corporate groups, and team building days too.

Our equipment

We keep the teaching kit current. Kites and boards come from Cabrinha, Crazyfly, Ozone, Airush, F-One, Dakine, Manera, and Shinn. Wetsuits are Alder. Kitesurfing, wingfoil, and kite buggy gear is all available to hire, and we run an annual hire membership for people who come back regularly and don’t want to bring their own kit.

Our accommodation

In summer, we have a 4-metre bell tent on site with an outdoor toilet, BBQ, outdoor shower, and hot tub. It’s a simple way to stay close to the beach. You don’t even need a hotel booking.

No-wind activities

Kayaks and paddleboards are available to hire when the wind is light. The kite buggy and mountain boards work on land any day. We have fat orange e-bikes for hire, well-suited to the flat roads around Camber, and sea kayaking taster sessions if you want something guided.

I have just come back from an excellent 3 day beginner course with Anthony and Alex. My friend and I opted for a 2 day private package working first with Alex (who was excellent) before doing our final day with Anthony and another student for our first intro to the "Board". All equipment was provided, instruction was first class and struck the perfect balance of safety and of course fun. We loved it. We will be back.

I had an excellent experience with Camber Kitesurfing School. The instructors were knowledgeable, easygoing, and made the whole session a lot of fun. The atmosphere was really friendly and relaxed, which made learning much easier and more enjoyable. I had a great time out on the water and I’m definitely looking forward to my next lessons. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about giving kitesurfing a go!

We have recently start learning to KiteSurf and have to say that Antony and his team are excellent, all equipment is provided and always felt really safe and at the same time excellent fun. Also benefiting from being close to the beach at the quieter end made it less crowded. They also have a good range of equipment to either buy or rent once you are ready to go along. Highly recommended 👍🏻
